Anesthesia Options
We Value Your Comfort
At Kitsap Oral, Maxillofacial & Dental Implant Surgery, it is our goal to make sure our patients feel comfortable and at ease. We understand that surgery can be stressful for both children and adults, and our team wishes to provide the support and guidance you need.
Types of Anesthesia
There are a variety of anesthesia and sedation options available at our practice.
Oral Surgery and Anesthesia
Oral surgeons are the only dental professionals trained and qualified to administer all types of anesthesia. During the consultation appointment, you will meet with one of our surgeons to discuss your oral health and treatment options. This is also when we will talk about anesthesia, and help you choose the right option for your level of anxiety and the complexity of the procedure. Sedation is also an excellent way to help children and patients with special needs receive care while feeling calm and comfortable.
Following dental school, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon must complete 4–6 additional years of training. This time is known as an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and exposes the surgeon to hands-on training in a surgical setting, treating patients with a variety of needs, and learning to safely administer anesthesia. Dr. Sukhdeep Dhaliwal, Dr. Paul Greenawalt, Dr. Thomas Curran, and Dr. Douglas Baasch proudly offer these options so that our patients can have a comfortable surgical experience.
EXPAREL® for Long-Lasting Pain Relief
Our practice offers EXPAREL, a single-dose pain management option that can reduce or eliminate the need for narcotic pain medications after oral surgery. During your procedure, we can administer EXPAREL directly to the surgical site, where it will only numb the affected area unlike opioids, which affect the entire body. EXPAREL starts taking effect immediately and provides pain relief for several days after the procedure.
EXPAREL is an option for patients undergoing many oral surgery procedures, such as wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, tooth extractions, and more. Ask us about EXPAREL during your consultation to learn more about how it can help you manage post-operative pain and reduce the need for opioids.
